五月雨を あつめて早し 最上川(さみだれを あつめてはやし もがみがわ)
Literal Translation: by SAMIDARE(rain in may), so fast because collected, MOGAMI river
1) Free Translation: MOGAMI river flows so fast because of gathering much rainwater falling in lunar calendar may.
2) Structure: 5-7-5
3) Human Being or Human Society: Human society
4) Nature or Season: Season, SAMIDARE is KIGO of TSUYU(spring ~ summer).
5) Motivation of making HAIKU: The river flows very fast. It may be ships move very fast or the banks of the river dangerous.
6) Technics: Makes readers imagine river surroundings and human society under bad weather.
MOGAMI river is a big one in YAMAGATA/TOHOKU, and very fast (steep) river in Japan. Rivers in Japan flow like waterfall.
HAIKU describes not only nature or season but human relations behind.
