HAIKU easy

One of poems which made by MATSUO BASHOU is,

古池や 蛙飛びこむ 水の音(ふるいけや かはづとびこむ みずのおと)

Literal Translation: Oh, the old pond, a frog dives into, the sound of water.

Now I analyze this poem from several aspects.

1) Free Translation: The author hears the sound of water which made by a frog diving into an old pond.

2) Structure: 5-7-5

3) Human Being or Human Society: Human being, the author or you (~experience this sound beside the author)

4) Nature or Season: Nature, but a frog is KIGO (= season + word) of spring. Many KIGO are written on SAIJIKI.(~HAIKU handbook) But I prefer this scene for summer.

Bashou has a strong impression of "OKUNO HOSOMICHI", so I remember the summer in TOUHOKU, cool heat in the shade of trees.

5) Motivation of making HAIKU: The poem may be not a real product but a fancy product. People says "古池や" was selected after.

I imagine in the quiet forest like shrine one, I hear the sound of frog diving and residual sound. The pond may be most old (~human history), if it is a real one.

6) Technics: The frog was like crowing object before, but now moving object. The sound of water emphasizes the quiet place, so "old pond" was selected.

Even if the author may see the old pond, it is not apparent to watch a diving frog.

When you know this poem, you may imagine your old experiences and translate to HAIKU.
